HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND HISTORY

2009 (JOY!) Tipp City Competition is the first of the season and the band places 2nd overall and earns a #2 rating.

2008 (Cops & Robbers): The Band qualifies for State Finals at the NorthWestern Bandfest and sweeps the awards at the contest for Best Music, Auxiliary, Percussion, Visual, and General Effects! The band earns another #1 Superior Rating and a first place trophy in the "B" division at Tecumseh Showcase of Bands.

2007 (Flight '07): The band qualifies for State Finals at the NorthWestern Bandfest, Kettering Showcase of Bands, Techumseh Showcase. At the State Finals the band earns a #1 Superior rating for this first time since 2002, and for only the 5th time in history.

2006 (The Music of Queen): The band qualifies for State Finals in the last show of the season. The percussion section receives Superior ratings in all 5 district competitions, and places first in every competition for only the second time in the history of the marching band. 14th consecutive year the band has represented Deer park at the State Finals.

2005 (James Bond): The band qualifies for State Finals at the first show of the season. The band scores over 250 for the first time since 2002. The band participates in its first non-OMEA show in 10 years. At State Finals the band earns an overall #2 Excellent rating.

2004 (Phantom of the Opera): The band again qualifies for State Finals at its first show of the year. The band participates in AA Class for the second time in its history, placing 2nd. The band received a #2 Excellent rating at State Finals.

2003 (Chicago 2): The band qualifies for State Finals at its first show of the year for the first time since 1997. The band misses a #1 rating at State Finals by one ratings caption.

2002 (West Side Story 2): Band qualifies at the second show of the year. At Versailles the band scores a 261. An undefeated season is finished off with the band's 4th superior rating at State Marching Band Finals. This is the band's 10th consecutive year at State Marching Band Finals.

2001 (American West): Band qualifies at the third show of the year. At the Kettering Classic the band moves up to class A and takes home first place. Band misses a #1 rating at State Finals by one subcaption. That year the Concert Band earns a superior rating at State Concert Band.

2000 (Musica Latina): Band qualifies at the second show of the year. Breaks 250 twice on its way to state. At State Finals the band receives its third Superior rating, scoring 5 ones and 2 twos.

1999 (Disney): Thank goodness for rain... The band gets its only #1 rating of the season on a sopping wet field at Springfield - Shawnee. Band receives a #2 Excellent Rating at State Finals.

1998 (Beatles): The band gets its only #1 rating at Hamilton, the fourth show of the season. However, a never-give-up attitude serves the band well as it receives its second #1 superior rating at State Finals.

1997 (Just Jazz): One of the most challenging shows in school history. Band qualifies at the first show of the year. Despite a torrential downpour of rain at State, the band scores a #2 rating, missing a #1 rating by 1 subcaption in 2 scores.

1996 (Gershwin): Band qualifies at third show of the year. Scores 257.8 at last show of the year breaking 250 for the first time and finishing 2nd overall at Tecumseh. Band receives a 2 at State Finals.

1995 (Monkees): Band qualifies for State Finals at second district show: Hamilton. Percussion section goes undedfeated and scores a 9.8 out of 10 at La Salle - highest drum score in school history. Band receives a #2 rating at State Finals. Band went AA at Lockland - finishing 2nd.

1994 (West Side Story): Band qualifies for State Finals at first district show of the year at Amelia High School. Band goes undefeated for the season and earns its first #1 Superior rating at State Finals.

1993 (Chicago): Band qualifies for State Finals for the first time in school history at the Locland Band Competition. Band performed in a driving rainstorm that day. Earned second #1 rating that year at Harrison. Percussion section goes undefeated at all district shows. Earned a #2 Excellent rating at State Marching Band Finals - marched in snowy conditions and with temperature in the low 30's. The Award Winning Deer Park Drum Line.
